About our Vineyard
Hand picked, hand made, small batch wines
Mt Coghill Vineyard was established in 1993. Cold climate vines including chardonnay and pinot noir were planted. 1500 Pinot Noir rootlings were planted in 1995 and then 450 Chardonnay vines were planted in 1996. The vineyard is planted on red volcanic soil which produces a fruit driven wine. The vineyard is now managed by Tracey & Adam. The vines are tended to by hand, the grapes are hand picked in March or April and the small batch wines including Rose, Pinot Noir, Blancde Blanc, Blancde Noir and Sparkling Rose are being made by Kilchurn. Mt Coghill Vineyard is located 24 km north of Ballarat at Coghills Creek. At an altitude of 430 metres above sea level, night time temperatures are very cool, which aids in the retention of natural acidity. The cool climate is ideal for producing high quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vines are cane pruned and trellised. Vertical shoot positioning is utilised to maximise the fruit exposure to sunlight.
The Hare on our Labels - Hand-Drawn Local Artist
This Hare is a hand-drawn waterpaiting by Beckie Parkinson, a local artist who we stumbled across when visiting the Castlemaine Mill Markets. We commissioned her to draw the Mt Coghill Vineyard Hare, and hare it is!
